The Rainbow Mountain of Pallay Punchu is one of the new and best attractions in Cusco. Located 194km on the southern side of Cusco at 4,650 m (15,256 feet), it offers different breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains.
According to various investigations done at the site, the multi-colored hues of the mountain resemble the ponchos used in Peru. The poncho is both an ancestral and contemporary item of clothing that crosses borders and time.

Highlight of the day: Arriving at the spectacular Pallay Punchu Rainbow Mountain and enjoying the amazing panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
The adventure to explore this incredible Pallay Punchu begins at 4:00am with the pick-up from your hotel; afterward, we'll drive to Cusipata, where we get the buffet breakfast; then, we continue driving through the main road that connects Cusco and Puno; after driving one more hour, we'll get the trail head, where we will start our hike; from here, you will appreciate the first section of this wonderful mountain; on your back site, there will also be the red mountain; then, we start our hike for about 1 hour, with impressive landscapes accompanied by the typal fauna of the area, alpacas and llamas will be around you.
After hiking for about an hour, you will finally get to the Pallay Punchu mountain(4,600 m (15,100 feet), also known as Apu Taqllo in the local languages. Your tour guide will lead you to the most incredible spots where you can get stunning photos and gorgeous views. You can also climb the sharp edges of the mountain, where you can get amazing views of the landscapes around.
This incredible mountain contains various lines of different colors perfectly sculpted by the natural eolic erosion over millons of years. You'll be able to distinguish red, green, brown, yellow, magenta, and ocher. Your guide will explain the Andean life and religion while you enjoy the breathtaking view of Langui Lake.
After having enjoyed this adventure, we will embark on our bus and drive to Cusipata for our lunch. Following this, we will return to Cusco.
Our representative will collect you from your hotel in Cusco at 4:00am. Then, we will drive for 2 hours to reach Cusipata town, where we will get our breakfast. We'll pass through Sicuni City and see different rural communities along the bus road, and after we'll reach the trailhead where the hike starts.
The hike will take about 30 minutes uphill through a narrow path to reach Pallay Punchu mountain. We will walk with beautiful scenery that can amaze you from the beginning to the end of the hike. The red mountain in front of you is one of the most amazing views that you can get here. The local flora and fauna will accompany you all the way up until you get the view point. You will also see some alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas. If you are lucky, maybe condors flying over the mountains. Once you reach the highest point, you will be surprised by the stunning views of different colors and the Langui Lake on one side of the mountain.
Many people call Pallay Punchu due to the local languages, which means "woven poncho" that our ancestors used for different ceremonies, mostly for offering to Pachamama (Mother Nature). The mountain stands out because of its precise lines, perfectly sculpted by nature for many years, that create different colors: red, yellow, green, magenta, and ocher.
While you explore the fantastic colors, your guide will explain to you about the local flora and fauna, as well as a little of Inca's history and why these mountains were considered "Apus· protectors of the Andes.
In the afternoon, after having explored this fantastic place, we will hike back and board our van, then return to Sicuani to enjoy our rural lunch before heading back to Cusco.

This iconic mountain is located on the southern side of Cusco by following the main route between Cusco and Puno, near Sicuani district. You can also get there from Arequipa, but it takes a long drive.
Pallay Punchu Mountain is standing at 4,600 m (15,100 feet) above sea level, and the hike starts at 4,480 m (14,69 feet).
Well, the hike is not bad; it only takes 30 minutes to reach the peak, but it will depend on your physical condition. Of course, you need a few days in Cusco to acclimate to the altitude.
Usually it takes 3 hours of driving, but this will depend on which route is taking us. We take the closest one and get to the bottom of Pallay Puncho Mountain, which makes the hike shorter.
As we mentioned above, Pallay Punchu Mountain was discovered during the last pandemic, and not many people go there, so it is still well preserved, the flora and fauna are well cared for, there are not many regulations yet, and the hike is easier than other Rainbow Mountains.
Altitude sickness is a very common problem in Cusco. To avoid it, it is quite complicated if it is your first time over 3,000 meters. What you can do to avoid serious problems is to take it easy, especially on the first days. We recommend resting as much as you can; walking a little will help you to adjust the altitude; and drinking more water than you usually do will bring you more benefit from the altitude. Our guide will always carry an oxygen tank, and they are well trained to attend to any emergency that may occur during your Pallay Punchu tour.
May to October are the best times of the year to visit this iconic Pallay Punchu mountain. During this period, Cusco has a dry season and rain is rare, so you will have more chance to enjoy the different landscaspas that offer breathtaking views during this tour. November to April is the rainy season in Cusco, and some days could be heavy rains with no chance to enjoy this tour.
