The best time to visit Machu Picchu is during the dry season, from April to October, with May, June, and July offering the clearest skies and most stable conditions. There are three ways how to get to Machu Picchu.

• Inca Trail Trek:The classic 4-day hike along the ancient Inca Trail is the most iconic way to arrive at Machu Picchu, entering through the famous Sun Gate at sunrise. Permits are limited and sell out months in advance. Book early.
• Alternative Treks: Nowadays, there are different alternative treks that takes travelers to Aguas Calientes. Salkantay trek is one of the best alternative and combine mountains and jungle scenery. Other option is the Inca Jungle Trek with various adventure activities.

Since 2023 Machu Picchu tickets are strictly limited and sell out months in advance. Official entry permits are required for all the visitor and must be purchased through the official website. Choose from circuit 1,2, and 3, with option to add extra hikes to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain. It is highly recommended booking far in advance.

The most popular Machu Picchu ticket is circuit 2, covering approximately 60% of the citadel. It takes you through the agricultural terraces, to the temples and urban sector. The circuit 1 focus on the upper section only. Circuit 3, covers the lower part the Temple of the Sun, Water fountains and Urban sector.

There are two main ways to reach Machu Picchu, by train or hiking the inca Trail. The train is more comfortable option and depart from Cusco or Ollantaytambo. It is a scenic train trip for approximately 2 hours through the Urubamba Valley.
