This is a hiking tour in the Andes, where you will be able to see breathtaking landscapes, stunning glacial lakes, snow-capped mountains, herds of alpacas and beautiful Andean traditions.

Well, you need more than two days to explore the complete natural wonder that has Ausangate mountain; however, a two-day tour is perfect for those who are limited in time and want to see the beauty of the Andes.

This Ausangate Trek 2 Days is not very demanded due to the long distance during the day. However, you need a previous day in Cusco to acclimatize to the altitude, and being in moderate fitness shape will help a lot.

When you are doing this hike, you will start hiking at 4,100 meters and reach at 4,630 meters as the highest point during this 2 days trek.

Not, because we will have a team of horses who will transport all our camping gear, including your personal luggage, which has to be no more than 8kg. We will provide you with a duffel bag a day before your departure for the tour, and it must be filled with your personal items.

This trek is particularly challenging, especially for people who do not have experience hiking in the mountains. We recommend training with some exercises a few times per week to avoid problems, we also recommended to spend a few days in Cusco to acclimatize to the altitude because the trek is over 4,400 m/14,435 ft.

No worries; our guides and team are professionals; they know how to solve any issue during your trek. Your guide will always have a first aid kit with some medications, and they will also be carrying an oxygen tank for any emergencies that happen during our tours.

Definitely, it is always recommended to wear light hiking boots if possible. Ones with ankle support are extra helpful, especially for the inexperienced hiker. Because you're hiking through a difficult terrain, especially on day 2, some of them are slippery, now uneven, and at varying heights. The extra support helps prevent twisting your ankles.

Yes. Hiking around this mountain, you'll be away from the noisy cities, and you will reconnect with the spirit of the mountains. Our guide will make a ceremony to better understand the energy of those mountains. Recharge your energy with the right ceremony and feel the tranquility of the area.

Yes. Walking sticks are always helpful to trekkers, especially if is raining along the trek. Using walking sticks can help take the pressure off your knees while doing some portion of the trek. Plus they will help you get up the mountain as well.

All hotels in Cusco have storage where you can leave your luggage completely free even if you'll change hotel after the trek, In case they will say no, we have storage available in the Vidal Expeditions office. Get more information from our office team.

The weather in Cusco and parts of the Andes is unpredictable, even if the weather forecast says it’s sunny. We can’t trust it. It is an impossible question for us to answer. Historically, April through September is the dry season; November through February is the rainy season; and March and October are bridge months—a mixture of both. But the clouds have not followed these rules in the last few years. Prepare for sun and rain, no matter when you come. As far as temperatures go, that is consistent throughout the year. Mornings and evenings are always cold. Make sure to bring a fleece jacket for the mornings and a down jacket for the evenings.

Best Advice
  • Acclimatize: Before heading to Ausangate, take 2 to 3 days to acclimate the altitude. Considering hiking Ausangate at the end of your Peru trip.
  • Layer Your Clothing: Pack for extreme temperature swings. Bring thermal base layers, insulated jacket, waterproof shell, warm gloves, and hat.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink 3 – 4 liters of water daily. Altitude and exertion dehydrate you faster than you realize. Water alone isn't enough; bring electrolyte powder or tablets to prevent muscle cramping.
  • Walk Slowly (Pole Pole): Maintain a steady, slow pace. The goal is to finish, not to race. Let your body adjust to the altitude.
  • Use Packing List: Make use of our packing list for trekkers to make sure you have everything you need without going over the weight limit.
  • Train Before You Go: Build cardiovascular endurance with hiking, running, or stair climbing. Start training 2-3 months before your trip.
